Deleting Temporary Internet Files for AOL Users

This information is current as of Dec. 15, 2004. AOL may have changed their service by now, but we include this information in case it is helpful to you.

Have you noticed that even though you have updated your web site, when you view it in AOL it still shows the old version. Normally it means that you simply need to delete your temporary internet files, but, in the case of AOL, It may continue to show the old version for an extra day or two even though the changes have been made. We are not quite sure why, but we have found a remedy.

As you know, AOL does things a little different than everyone else. Their techs will tell you all you need to do to delete the temporary internet files is right-click the big blue E (Internet Explorer) on the desktop, click properties and then click the button to delete the temporary internet files, We've found that you have to do one more step in addition to the standard delete.

Deleting Temporary Internet Files for AOL 6.0 Users:

1. Start your AOL software.
2. Click on settings, which is located at the top of your screen.
3. Click on preferences from the menu.
4. Click on Internet properties this will open the Internet options box.
   1. Under Temporary Internet files click the delete files button.
   2. This will open the delete files box. Place a checkmark in the box next to the words delete all offline content then click ok.

Note: Please be patience while it's deleting your temporary Internet files, this could take awhile especially if this is your first time deleting these files.

Deleting Temporary Internet Files for AOL 9.0 Users:

1. Click settings (located at the top of your screen). This will open up the settings box.
2. At the top of the settings box you will see the words view by: category - index. Please click the word index.
3. Under the letter I click on Internet (web) options. A control box will open up and towards the right hand side click on the words Internet Explorer settings.
4. AOL Internet properties box will open up.
   1. Under Temporary Internet files click the delete files button.
   2. This will then open the delete files box. Place a checkmark in the box next to the words delete all offline content then click ok.

Note: Please be patience while it's deleting your temporary Internet files, this could take awhile especially if this is your first time deleting these files.

We know that it is the same thing as deleting the temporary internet files in IE, but if you're having problems seeing updates. Try it. We've found that deleting the temporary internet files in both places fixes the problem many times.
